Many older digital cameras will not support 4GB or larger SD memory cards. Memory cards greater than 4GB in size are SDHC, while standard SD memory cards, are 2GB or less.
In some cases camera manufactures release firmware updates for there cameras, so please check your manufactures website for any updates.
SDHC is Secure Digital High Capacity, supports cards with capacities up to 32 GB.
